Far too often, when it comes to interior design, homeowners are consumed by the ideology that “bigger is better.” And while sure, a large kitchen may be associated with luxury, there is only so much you can do with the space.

So, with this being said, this blog post will discuss more on choosing the perfect sized kitchen for your home. And we’ll give you a clue: there is no one size fits all equation.

Making the most of your existing footprint

That’s right, there is no perfect size for a kitchen. This is because everybody’s circumstances are slightly different. Perhaps you live alone and do not require much space. Alternatively, maybe you have a large family and need all the space you can get.

Instead, you should strive to make the most of your existing footprint. For example, you may wish to include an island counter, additional counter storage, or other benefits and amenities. To create the very best kitchen, you should work with what you’ve got, making it yours, and doing what you can with the space that you’ve got.

Despite this, this advice does not apply if you’re buying or looking for a new home. Instead, you should look for a space ideal for you, once again meeting your requirements to best suit your family and lifestyle.

Modular kitchen design

If you are running low on space, you may wish to consider a modular kitchen design. Modular kitchens are space-efficient and contain plenty of storage space, enabling you to make the most of your footprint.

Often, those with smaller kitchens benefit more from a modular design, providing all the amenities and requirements without breaking the bank. With this being said, this type of kitchen design isn’t for everyone, but you’re tight on space, then you certainly cannot go wrong.

Anywhere from 10 to 15% of your home’s square footage

If you’re looking for numbers, then we also won’t disappoint. While we don’t have the exact measurements, anywhere from ten to fifteen percent of your home’s square footage is the ideal size for your kitchen.

This can vary, however, especially if you have an open planned design. Some homeowners prefer a larger kitchen too, perhaps as opposed to their sitting room as they mainly socialize in the kitchen.

So, in summary, it’s down to personal preference, don’t be afraid to make the most of your existing space, but create your kitchen space around your family and daily requirements for the best results.
